Ottawa Senators forward Daniel Alfredsson returned to the ice on Monday for the first time since early February. Alfredsson has been out since February 9 when he injured his back in a 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames. He has missed 23 games to date.

The Senators captain said that although it is unlikely he will play on the team's current road trip, he should know by the weekend whether he'll be able to play again this season or not. Ottawa has two games remaining on the road, Tuesday in Tampa Bay and Friday in Florida, before returning home to take on Toronto.

A possible return for Alfredsson could cap a disappointing season on a high note for Ottawa fans. The 38-year-old forward is the Sens' longest-serving captain and one of the few veterans remaining after the team's Trade Deadline Day purge.
