Boston Bruins centre Patrice Bergeron has been diagnosed with a mild concussion, and is expected to miss one or two games.

General manager Peter Chiarelli made the announcement to reporters on Saturday, as his club prepares to face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Final.

Bergeron, one of Bruins' top players in the playoffs with two goals and 10 assists, was hit by Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series Friday night and didn't return to the game.

"He's a big part of our team, but I think the guys did a good job keeping things in focus," forward Shawn Thornton told NHL.com following the game. "The guys have stepped up. (Gregory Campbell) stepped up and did a great job filling in on that line. (Daniel Paille) had a couple of shifts, so I think by committee we did a good job finding a way to win that game."

This is Bergeron's third concussion, twice missing significant time because of one. He missed nearly the entire 2007-08 season after suffering an October concussion following a hit from Flyers defenceman Randy Jones, and then missed time a year later when a collision with Dennis Seidenberg gave him his second career concussion.

Round 2 continues with San Jose's Dan Boyle taking on Kari Lehtonen of the Dallas Stars.
