Red Wings assistant coach Brad McCrimmon will not be returning for another season behind the Detroit bench.
Sources say McCrimmon and head coach Mike Babcock mutually agreed it was the right time to make the change.
McCrimmon, whose contract expired after completing his third season in Detroit, is moving on to pursue other opportunities, which may include one of the five current NHL head coaching vacancies.
No word at the moment on who Babcock is considering as McCrimmon's replacement.
