OTTAWA -- Dave Cameron is finally getting his chance to coach at an NHL level.
Cameron along with Mark Reeds were named assistant coaches by the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.
They'll backup the newly-hired Paul MacLean, who was named to the head coach position last week.
Cameron is coming off a bittersweet season where he took his Mississauga St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey League to the Memorial Cup only to lose to the Saint John Sea Dogs in the final.
He also served as head coach for Canada's national junior team. He took that team to this year's IIHF world championship in Buffalo, N.Y., but lost in that final after Russia made a spirited comeback.
Prior to joining Mississauga, Cameron, 52, spent three seasons in the Ottawa organization as the head coach of the AHL's Binghamton Senators.
Reeds, 51, recently completed his fourth season as head coach of the OHL's Owen Sound Attack, where he compiled a regular-season record of 46-17-5 en route to the Western Conference title and eventual OHL championship.
Prior to joining Owen Sound, Reeds spent four seasons as head coach of the United Hockey League's Kalamazoo Wings.
Luke Richardson will remain in the organization as a part-time coach and Rick Wamsley will return for his second season as Senators goaltending coach.
