Winnipeg team opens NHL season against the Canadiens

TORONTO -- Winnipeg will host the Montreal Canadiens in its NHL season opener Oct. 9.

The new franchise will then hit the road for games in Chicago on Oct. 13 and Phoenix on Oct. 15 in a game that will see the old and new Winnipeg franchises collide.

The Coyotes come to Winnipeg on Dec. 1

Opening night is Oct. 6 when the Stanley Cup champion Bruins host the Philadelphia Flyers, the Maple Leafs entertain the Montreal Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins take on the Canucks in Vancouver.

The Boston Bruins will face the Maple Leafs in the Hall of Fame Game on Nov. 5. The Canucks and Bruins will meet in a Stanley Cup rematch on Jan. 7 in Boston.

The regular season ends on Saturday, April 7 with 15 games on tap. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it will be the first time the NHL regular season has ended on a Saturday since 1928.
