The overhaul of the Philadelphia Flyers continued on Thursday, as the club shipped captain Mike Richards to the Los Angeles Kings.

Richards, who was named captain of the Flyers in 2008, is coming off a season where he scored 23 goals and 66 points.

The 26-year-old forward had a career-high 31 goals in 2009-10 and is signed through the 2019-20 season with an annual $5.75 million cap hit.

Coming back to the Philadelphia are forwards Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds and a second round draft pick.

Last season in Los Angeles, Simmonds had 14 goals and 30 points. He also contributed three points in six playoff games.

The 22-year-old was selected by the Kings in the second round of the 2007 Entry Draft and has played three seasons in the NHL, with a career-high 16 goals in the 2009-10 season.

Schenn was drafted fifth overall by the Kings in the 2009 Entry Draft. He spent the majority of last season in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Saskatoon Blades.

The 19-year-old defenceman also appeared in nine NHL games and has two assists.

Earlier in the day, the Flyers deal Jeff Carter to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Jakub Voracek and a first and third round draft pick.

The pair of trades allowed Philadelphia enough cap space to sign newly-acquired goalie Ilya Bryzgalov to a nine-year, $51 million contract.
