Concerns about Fraser's health could void Smyth deal

The Edmonton Oilers insist they disclosed all the information necessary on Colin Fraser, the player sent to the Kings in the Ryan Smyth deal.
And with that, they believe that the deal as constructed will stand.

Earlier Thursday, a report surfaced that a Los Angeles doctor said that a cyst on Fraser's heel might need to be removed, and that could have him out for up to four months.

However, Oilers doctors were aware of the cyst, but weren't concerned about it. It was also looked at by a foot specialist in Edmonton. Fraser is waiting to see another foot specialist with the Kings. Both medical sides have exchanged information about the condition.

Fraser, who's also recovering slower than expected from a broken foot, still doesn't appear close to being ready for training or getting ready for the season.

The Ryan Smyth trade was initially held up because Gilbert Brule, who the Oilers were originally sending to the Kings in the deal, was injured and therefore unable to be bought out upon completion of the trade.

Fraser was included instead, but TSN learned about his health concerns which could affect the ability of a buyout to be executed on his contract.

The Kings could petition the league to void the deal, but if that move was successful, they would have Smyth's contract back on their books, limiting any moves they can make in free agency.
