The Washington Capitals have parted ways with defenceman Tyler Sloan, buying out his contract after he cleared unconditional waivers.

The 30-year-old defenceman split time between the Capitals and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League last season.

In 33 games in the NHL during the 2010-11 campaign he had six points and was a minus-6.  In the six AHL games he played last season he had two assists and was a plus-4.

Sloan was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Columbus Blue Jackets and spent seven years in the minors before making his NHL debut with the Capitals in 2008.
