The San Jose Sharks signed unrestricted free agent forward Michal Handzus to a two-year contract worth $2.5 million per year.
The 34-year-old Handzus appeared in all 82 regular season games for the LA Kings last season and posted 12 goals and 18 assists.
''Michal is an extremely skilled player that has a great mix of size and competitiveness,'' vice president and general manager Doug Wilson said. ''He is one of the top penalty killing forwards in this League and has the ability to play in any situation.''
Over the last four seasons with the Kings, Handzus has appeared in 327 out of a possible 328 contests registering 57 goals and 78 assists.
The six-foot-four, 220-pound native of Banska Bystrika, Slovakia was originally selected by St. Louis in the fourth round (101st overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
