Capitals sign F Brouwer to two-year contract

The Washington Capitals have signed forward Troy Brouwer to a two-year contract worth $2.35 million per season.

The 25-year-old recorded 17 goals and a career-high 19 assists in 79 regular-season games with the Chicago Blackhawks last season and appeared in all seven playoff games with the club, collecting 11 penalty minutes and finishing with a plus- 2 rating.

The Vancouver, B.C., native also helped lead the Blackhawks to the 2010 Stanley Cup championship while tallying a career-high four goals and four assists in 19 playoff games.

Drafted by the Blackhawks in the seventh round (214th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Brouwer has 49 goals and 54 assists in 238 career NHL games.
