Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - The Calgary Flames signed veteran defenceman Scott Hannan to a one-year contract worth $1 million on Saturday.
The 32-year-old began last season with Colorado and had six assists in 23 games, then was traded to Washington on November 30 and totaled a goal and four assists to go along with a rating of plus-three over 55 games with the Capitals.
"Scott not only brings a wealth of experience to our blue line, but he also brings a great deal of knowledge about the Western Conference in general and our division in particular," said Calgary general manager Jay Feaster. "Just as importantly, he has demonstrated his commitment to our organization and his desire to be a part of our team by agreeing to a contract that enables us to fit him under the salary cap."
The British Columbia native was a first-round pick of San Jose in the 1997 draft and spent his first eight seasons with the Sharks. He then signed with Colorado as a free agent prior to the start of the 2007-08 season and played there until being traded.
Over 830 games, he has totaled 31 goals and 154 assists and is plus-25.
