Flyers sign van Riemsdyk to six-year, $25.5M extension

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward James van Riemsdyk to a six-year extension worth $25.5 million.

The average annual cap hit for the deal is $4.25 million.

The annual salary for the 22-year-old van Riemsdyk will earn escalates on a year-by-year basis. The first year of the deal is worth $2.5 million, rising to $3.75 million in year two, $4.5 million in year three, $4.75 million in year four and a $5 million salary for the final two years of teh deal.

Philadelphia took van Riemsdyk second overall in the 2007 NHL Draft and has played 153 games for the Flyers over the past two seasons, amassing 36 goals and 39 assists.

The New Jersey-born left winger finished with 21 goals and 19 assists was a plus-15 in 75 games last season.
