Veteran defenceman Steve Staios has signed a one-year deal with the New York Islanders.

The 38-year-old became an unrestricted free agent in July after spending a little over a year with the Calgary Flames.

Over 15 seasons and 936 games in the NHL, the Hamilton native has 56 goals, 156 assists and a minus 67 rating.

Drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the second round (27th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, he's also spent time with the Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, Atlanta Thrashers, New Jersey Devils, Edmonton Oilers, and Flames.
