Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - The Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday signed veteran goaltender David Aebischer to an American Hockey League contract and assigned him to the St. John's IceCaps.

Aebischer posted a 3.00 goals-against average and .897 save percentage in two preseason games with the Jets.

The 33-year-old had been playing in his native Switzerland for the past four seasons.

A backup to Patrick Roy on Colorado's 2001 Stanley Cup winning team, Aebischer has compiled a record of 106-74-5, including 12 ties, a 2.52 GAA and .912 save percentage in 214 NHL games with the Avalanche, Montreal and Phoenix.
