It appears Ryan Whitney's return to the Oilers lineup was short-lived.
According to the Edmonton Journal, Whitney is expected to miss three weeks with a sprained knee, an injury he suffered in Tuesday's win over the Vancouver Canucks.
Whitney's season was delayed by four games as he recuperated from an ankle injury that caused him to miss 47 games last season.
The puck-moving defenceman made his season debut against the Calgary Flames on October 18 and appeared in four games before suffering a knee injury on Tuesday.
In the first period, he got tangled up with teammate Corey Potter and limped off the ice.
The Oilers face the Avalanche in Colorado on Friday.
