The return of Andrei Markov may be getting closer.

Montreal Canadiens head coach Jacques Martin told reporters the smooth-skating defenceman is 1-2 weeks away from practicing with the team.

Markov underwent surgery to repair the ACL in his right knee last season and has yet to play this season. The Russian blueliner will skate on his own before joining his teammates in practice.

He has been undergoing rehabilitation under the supervision of Dr. James Andrews in Florida.

Markov only played seven games last season before suffering the knee injury.
