Chicago Blackhawks forward Dan Carcillo has been suspended two games following a hearing with Brendan Shanahan for his hit on Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Joni Pitkanen on Friday night.

Carcillo pushed Pitkanen hard into the boards behind Carolina's net while both were chasing the puck. Pitkanen left the game but he did return later. Carcillo wasn't assessed a penalty on the play.

It will mark the second time Carcillo will miss time to suspension this year. He was suspended the first two games of the regular season for an off-ice incident in last year's post-season while a member of the Philadelphia Flyers.

This is Carcillo's fifth suspension of his career. He will miss games on Saturday and Monday, and is eligible to return on Thursday against the Florida Panthers.
