The Anaheim Ducks claimed centre Ben Maxwell off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.
Maxwell, 23, has appeared in 36 career NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens (2008-10), Atlanta Thrashers (2010-11) and Jets (2011-12), scoring one goal and one assist with 17 penalty minutes.
Maxwell made his NHL debut with the Canadiens on Dec. 13, 2008 vs. Washington and scored his first career NHL goal with the Thrashers on Mar. 27, 2011. He missed the first six games of the 2011-12 regular season with an upper body injury before making his Jets debut.
The North Vancouver, British Columbia native has appeared in four games for the Jets this year, going scoreless.
Selected by Montreal in the second round (49th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Maxwell made his professional debut with Hamilton of the American Hockey League in 2008-09. He's appeared in 179 career AHL games with Hamilton and Chicago, earning 49 goals and 94 assists with a plus- 15 rating and 112 PIM. He has also played in seven career Calder Cup Playoff games, scoring three goals and one assist with four PIM.
