With the NHL Trade Deadline only weeks away, teams are making decisions on whether to buy or sell and deciding which players can make the biggest difference or hold the greatest value.

Check out today's trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat. And follow TSN.ca each day until Deadline Day for all the updates.

State of the Market

TSN Hockey Insiders Darren Dreger and Pierre LeBrun discussed the Flyers' need for a defenceman and Ryan Suter's market status last night on Insider Trading.

LeBrun says that with Carolina inking Tim Gleason to an extension the Flyers now have to regroup in their defensive search. He says that Montreal's Hal Gill could be an option with his experience, shot-blocking and penalty-killing ability. He says that Dallas defenceman Nicklas Grossman and Toronto's Luke Schenn could also be targets.

Dreger says that many teams around the league believe the Predators All-Star defenceman to be in play leading up to the deadline. He also discusses what the potential asking price would be for Suter, saying the Predators would want a four-piece-deep package in return.

Get Carter

Jeff Carter says that he is focused on recovering from a shoulder injury and returning to play for the Columbus Blue Jackets. However, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports that multiple sources have confirmed that Carter is on the trading block.

Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson declined to talk about the rumours but did say that he had spoken with Carter's agent.

Getting In Line

Tuomo Ruutu would be a good fit for many teams around the league. The Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch says the Senators are one of the teams with heavy interest. Indications are that Carolina will be asking for a lot in return to move Ruutu, though.

Garrioch also talks about a campaign by Senators fans to have the team bring back former Senator Chris Kelly, who could be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Looking to Enhance

The first place Red Wings already look pretty good but the Globe and Mail's Allan Maki reports that Detroit GM Ken Holland is looking to bolster his lineup before the trade deadline. Holland apparently isn't interested in moving any of the club's early-round draft picks seeking only to enhance, and not remodel the lineup.

Breaking Point

Minnesota defenceman Marek Zidlicky's time with the Wild could be nearing an end. Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reports that the 34-year-old is very unhappy playing for head coach Mike Yeo and he could wind up being traded.

No Talks Yet

New Jersey Devils captain Zach Parise says there have been no contract talks with the team yet. He isn't worried about the lack of dialogue being a distraction leading up to the trade deadline though and feels there will be plenty of time following the season to get a deal done.
