With the NHL Trade Deadline only weeks away, teams are making decisions on whether to buy or sell and deciding which players can make the biggest difference or hold the greatest value.

Check out today's trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat. And follow TSN.ca each day until Deadline Day for all the updates.

Desperate to Deal

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger was on the NHL on TSN panel last night to discuss the Maple Leafs trade situation leading up to the deadline. Dreger said that Leafs GM Brian Burke is desperate to make a move and will take a run at Philadelphia Flyers forward James Van Riemsdyk.

Pop Quiz

Last night on The Quiz, the NHL on TSN panel made up of analysts Aaron Ward and Marc Crawford along with Darren Dreger were asked which Canadian team would be the busiest before the trade deadline.

Ward said Oilers would be the busiest and discussed the potential of them moving Ales Hemsky. Crawford agreed with Ward saying that Edmonton had a lot of coveted young pieces.

Dreger meanwhile thought the Maple Leafs would be the busiest of the Canadian teams before the deadline. He cited the Leafs need for a top-six forward and the potential assets they have that could land one for them .

Backup Plan

It's certainly a luxury to have a stellar backup goaltender, however it's tough to keep two potential number ones happy. Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province says the Canucks will eventually have to consider moving Cory Schneider, who has shown he is capable of being a top goalie.

However, Willes says that the team is unlikely to explore moving Schneider before the deadline because of Roberto Luongo's uneven playoff history.

Agent In Town

Maple Leafs centre Mikhail Grabovski's agent, Gary Greenstin, is in Toronto. Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun reports that Greenstin could be here to talk about the same kind of extension the Leafs gave defenceman John-Michael Liles last week.

Grabovski's status as an impending unrestricted free agent had fueled many rumours that he may be traded before the deadline.

Sabre Metrics

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller has said that he wants to remain with the team and honour his contract. Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News reports that the Sabres will have to make a decision between now and the deadline on whether or not to keep Miller around though.

Brooklyn Islanders?

Not really a player trade rumour, but a venue trade rumour with this one. New York Islanders owner Charles Wang has announced that the team will play a pre-season game at the new Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, a state of the art arena designed for the NBA's New Jersey Nets. This has led to some speculation that Wang could eventually move the Islanders there as well. Not likely, says Stu Hackel of SI.com
