With the NHL Trade Deadline only weeks away, teams are making decisions on whether to buy or sell and deciding which players can make the biggest difference or hold the greatest value.

Check out today's trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat. And follow TSN.ca each day until Deadline Day for all the updates.

McKenzie's takes

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie tried to shed some light as to what could happen with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes.

With regards to the Maple Leafs, McKenzie said that there is a very real chance the team doesn't make a significant move between now and the trade deadline. McKenzie noted that the Leafs are looking for a top six forward with size who can score, and he points to the fact that there are not a lot of those players currently on the market.

The Carolina Hurricanes, who are the team that is widely believed to be the one to get the trades rolling in the next week or two, might not be so quick to part with soon-to-be free agent Tuomo Ruutu.

McKenzie reports that the asking price for Ruutu has been steep, and there's a chance that the club sits down with the winger and asks him to sign an extension, like they did with defenceman Tim Gleason. If Ruutu is willing to sign, he'll stay, if he doesn't than it would appear that he'll be on the move.

Staying in Calgary

Flames captain Jarome Iginla was once again asked about his future in Calagary and according to Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald, Iginla has no plans to leave the team at the deadline.

"I think we're going to be a playoff team," Iginla siad. "I believe that."

Wait and See Mode

Kirk Penton of QMI Agency states that the Winnipeg Jets will wait to see where they are in the standings as the deadline approaches to see if they are buyers or sellers.

"We have a two-week window here where we have to make things happen," head coach Claude Noel said. "You're either going to play with that (playoff) line or you're not."

Sharks looking for offence

With Martin Havlat only expected to return to the lineup in March, the San Jose Sharks should be looking for a top-six forward according to David Pollack of the Mercury News.Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports that winger David Jones, who has scored 10 goals after scoring 27 last season, is a prime candidate to be traded.

When asked about his search, general manager Doug Wilson was tight lipped.

"Once we get in this month," Wilson told the Mercury News, "I don't make any comment about anything."

Packing His Bags?

There's at least one member of the Colorado Avalanche that knows that he could be on the move.

Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports that winger David Jones, who has scored 10 goals after scoring 27 last season, is a prime candidate to be traded.

Jones will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and he and the club have not had any discussions about a contract extension.

Kings In Tough Spot

While the Los Angeles Kings would love to add some scoring up front, Helene Elliott of the LA Times reports that it's going to be easier said than done.

The Kings, who are averaging just over two goals per-game on the season, are very close to the salary cap meaning that they would wait until the last week of the deadline before making a deal. If that hurdle wasn't enough, general manager Dean Lombardi has to contend with a luke-warm market.

"It's hard to find an upgrade right now," Lombardi said.
