One of the most talked-about trade assets in Carolina won't be showcasing any of his skills anytime soon.

Hurricanes forward Tuomo Ruutu's upper-body injury will have him sidelined three to four weeks.

He was injured early in the first period against the Canadiens on Monday, believed to be suffered on a hit from Tomas Plekanec. Ruutu went to the bench and was done for the rest of the night, finishing with just under two minutes of ice time for the game.

The 28-year-old Ruutu was said to be in the process of negotiations with the Hurricanes on a new contract, as he's set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

He has 17 goals and 30 points in 57 games with the Hurricanes this season.
