General manager Brian Burke cooled down some trade speculation regarding Rick Nash on Sunday, clarifying a report that said he was in New York to talk with Columbus Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson.
"Unscheduled meeting, I was there on other business," he told TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun on ESPN.com on Sunday afternoon.
Burke made the trip to New York after the Leafs' 6-2 loss in Vancouver on Saturday. Howson's Blue Jackets are in New York to take on the Rangers on Sunday night.
Nash has been front page news for more than a week now after reports surfaced that the Blue Jackets are listening to offers for their franchise player. The 27-year-old Nash has 18 goals and 21 assists in 58 games for Columbus this season.
The native of Brampton, Ontario has a no-movement clause in his contract and would have to approve any potential deal.
The NHL trade deadline is just over a week away, on Feb. 27.
