With the Feb. 27 NHL Trade Deadline looming, teams are making decisions on whether to buy or sell and deciding which players can make the biggest difference or hold the greatest value.

Check out today's trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat. And follow TSN.ca each day until Deadline Day for all the updates.

Wearing a Different Jacket?

With all the rumours of Rick Nash to the Maple Leafs floating around, another Columbus Blue Jacket – centre Jeff Carter – could be the better fit in Toronto.

The Globe and Mail suggests that Carter should be Leafs GM Brian Burke's target, citing the lower price tag it would take to acquire him. The Globe goes on to say that Los Angeles could be a better landing place for Nash.

Out of the Bidding?

Already having made two trades to acquire defencemen Nicklas Grossman and Pavel Kubina, the odds of the Philadelphia Flyers picking up Rick Nash appear to have lessened.

Frank Seravalli of philly.com believes that with each passing hour, the Flyers – who were once considered the front runners – are less likely to deal for Nash.

Reaping the Rewards

Sergei Gonchar has been through his share of Trade Deadline days in his career, and this year he said he hasn't been asked to waive his no-movement clause clause, yet.

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports that Gonchar, who has a year left on his contract, doesn't want to leave Ottawa. Gonchar has been a part of the Senators turnaround this season and wants to stick around to see the see it out.

Scoring Punch

The San Jose Sharks will look to add some scoring help to compete in the Western Conference down the stretch, but it may be easier said than done.

Mark Purdy of MercuryNews.com lists a number of players that could help the Sharks – players like Teemu Selanne and Rick Nash – but warns there's a possibility none of them could be available for what the Sharks are willing to give up.

He's Come A Long Way

Evgeni Nabokov has come a long way from not reporting to the New York Islanders last year to possibly re-signing with the club this year.

Newsday reports reports Nabokov's agent said contract talks with the team will start soon. That doesn't mean, however, that Nabokov will agree to what the Islanders give him. GM Garth Snow has said that he won't trade the netminder at the Trade Deadline this season.

Quiet Desert

Despite their current standing as a playoff team, the Phoenix Coyotes will likely be fairly inactive on Trade Deadline Day.

Jim Gintonio of the Arizona Republic reports that Coyotes GM Don Maloney will likely stand pat at the Deadline, because he likes the current make-up of his team and thinks they are playing good hockey.

Roy Wants to Stay

While rumours swirl of Derek Roy's possible availability at the Trade Deadline, the Buffalo Sabres forward said he isn't paying attention.

Bucky Gleason of Buffalo News reports that despite some struggles this year, Roy wants to remain in Buffalo.
