The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded Samuel Pahlsson to the Vancouver Canucks for defenceman Taylor Ellington and a pair of fourth-round draft picks in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Pahlsson has scored two goals and nine assists in 61 games with the Blue Jackets this season.
A key member of the Anaheim Ducks Stanley Cup-winning 2007 team, Pahlsson is viewed by many as a reliable shut-down centre. He also won a gold medal with Sweden at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.
Pahlsson has scored 66 goals and 127 assists in 779 career NHL games with the Ducks, Bruins, Blackhawks and Blue Jackets.
He is currently in the final year of a three-year contract he signed with the Blue Jackets in 2009 worth an average annual value of $2.65 million.
He was originally selected in the seventh round (176th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche at the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
The draft picks headed to Columbus are Vancouver's fourth round selection in 2012 and the New York Islanders' 2012 fourth round selection acquired by Vancouver in exchange for Christian Ehrhoff before he became an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2011.
