The Winnipeg Jets have traded defenceman Johnny Oduya to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a second and third round pick in 2013.

The 30-year-old Oduya is in his sixth season in the NHL, spending time with the New Jersey Devils, Atlanta Thrashers and Jets.

"You're excited and a little bit let down at the same time," Oduya told TSN about today's bittersweet news.

This season, the Stockholm, Sweden, native has two goals and 11 assists through 63 games. Through 445 career games in the NHL, Oduya has 22 goals and 87 assists.

Drafted by the Washington Capitals in the seventh round (221st overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, he signed with the Devils as a free agent in 2006.

On February 4, 2011, Oduya, along with Niclas Bergfors, Patrice Cormier and a first-round draft pick, were traded to the Thrashers for Ilya Kovalchuk, Anssi Salmela and a second-round draft pick.

Oduya is in the final year of a contract that carries a $3.5 million cap hit and is due to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
