ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues signed former first-round pick Jaden Schwartz to an entry level contract Monday.

The 19-year-old forward recently completed his sophomore season at Colorado College of the NCAA, leading the Tigers with 41 points (15 goals, 26 assists) in 30 games.

Schwartz is expected to play his first NHL game Tuesday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

"Jaden had an excellent college career and we are excited that he is ready to make the jump to the NHL," Blues executive vice-president and general manager Doug Armstrong said in a statement. "He will add depth to the skill level on our team and give us some options as we begin this stretch drive."

Schwartz, a native of Wilcox, Sask., played for Canada at the 2011 and 2012 world junior hockey championships.

"It's been a dream of mine to play in the NHL and I'm excited to be able to do it as a St. Louis Blue," said Schwartz, the 14th overall pick in 2010. "The Blues are having a terrific season and I will do whatever they need me to do just to help out."

St. Louis currently sits first in the NHL with a record of 45-18-7.
