Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Andrej Meszaros will have lower back surgery on Wednesday and will be sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks.
The Flyers announced on Monday that Meszaros needs to have a small disc fragment removed.
The veteran blueliner has appeared in 62 games for the Flyers this season, with seven goals and 18 assists. The 26-year-old has been out since March 4 with the back injury, and has already missed nine games.
Philadelphia's blue line has been decimated by a string of injuries this season. The team lost Chris Pronger to a concussion and knee issues in November, and are also currently without newly-acquired Pavel Kubina (upper body) and Andreas Lilja (throat).
