Philadelphia Flyers centre Danny Briere will be ready for the Flyers playoff opener tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The announcement was made by Flyers GM Paul Holmgren Wednesday afternoon.

Also, defenceman Nicklas Grossmann will be in the starting lineup for Game 1. Grossmann was on the wrong end of a knee-on-knee collision with Penguins forward Joe Vitale on April 1.

Briere missed the final three games of the regular season with back spasms following a hit from Pittsburgh's Joe Vitale.

Briere participated in his second consecutive practice on Tuesday, skating on a line with Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds.

Briere told Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia that he is not allowed to comment about his injury, but that he is "practicing and working to get ready."

He said he is feeling no limitations as a result of the hit and that he has been feeling a lot better this week as opposed to last.

Briere is tied for fourth on the Flyers in scoring with 16 goals and 33 assists this season.
