The Chicago Blackhawks have promoted Norm Maciver to assistant general manager, the club announced Monday.
Maciver just completed his fifth season with the Blackhawks, his first as Director of Player Personnel after previously serving as the club's Director of Player Development. Prior to joining the organization the Thunder Bay, Ontario, native served as an Assistant Coach with the Boston Bruins and the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.
"Norm has proven to be a valuable asset to our hockey operations over the past five years, so we are excited to be able to elevate him to this role," Blackhawks Vice President/General Manager Stan Bowman said. "He has an excellent handle on the players within our organization, from recent draft picks to veterans, and a great eye for talent evaluating. Promoting within our organization is something we take great pride in and we are very confident in what he will contribute on a daily basis as we strive to hire the best possible candidate at every position."
Following a decorated collegiate career at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he was a two-time All-American and finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the country's top player, Maciver spent 12 seasons as a defenceman in the NHL. He registered 55 goals and 230 assists in 500 career regular-season tilts with stops in New York, Hartford, Edmonton, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Winnipeg and Phoenix.
