Vancouver Canucks star centre Ryan Kesler underwent successful shoulder surgery to repair torn labrum, the team announced Tuesday.

Kesler is expected to make a full recovery in six months, which would mean he'll likely miss the start of next season.

"After consultation with our team physicians following the playoffs, it was deemed that Ryan would require a procedure on his shoulder," president and general manager, Mike Gillis said in a statement. "We expect a full recovery and determined this procedure would best serve the team's and Ryan's long term goals."

Following the series against the Los Angeles Kings, Kesler confirmed that he had been playing with an undisclosed injury since February.

This is the second off-season surgery for Kesler, who went under the knife last summer to repair the hip he injured in the Western Conference Final.

Kesler registered 22 goals and 27 assists through 77 regular season games this year, and added three assists in the post-season.
