The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed forward Teddy Purcell to a three-year, $13.5 million contract extension.

The announcement on Tuesday locks up the 26-year-old through the 2015-16 season.

The native of St. John's, Newfoundland had career highs with 24 goals and 41 assists for the Lightning last year.

Purcell has one year remaining on a two-year, $4.725 million contract that was signed prior to last season. He is scheduled to earn $2.375 million next season.

Purcell has 52 goals and 98 assists in 272 NHL contests over five seasons.
