The Montreal Canadiens have added another former player to their staff, hiring former NHLer John Madden to their amateur player recruitment group.

The club announced that Madden, 39, will be responsible for the scouting and evaluation of free agent players at the US college level.

Madden played 898 games over 13 NHL seasons, scoring 165 goals and 348 points.

He emerged as one of the league's top defensive forwards, winning the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2001 and also finishing as a finalist for the award in 2003 and 2004.

He helped the New Jersey Devils win the Stanley Cup in 2000 and 2003 before joining the Chicago Blackhawks in 2009 and helping lead the franchise to its first Stanley Cup since 1961.
