The NHL lockout continues to take its toll as the league announced Thursday that the remainder of its 2012 preseason games have been cancelled.

The news comes just a week after the NHL announced the cancellation of September's preseason games. The rest of the exhibition schedule ran from October 1 through October 8.

The regular season is scheduled to begin October 11.

Formal collective bargaining talks are set to resume on Friday in New York after a two week hiatus, with an emphasis on discussing non-core economic issues.

The league lost its entire season in 2004 and this is the league's fourth work stoppage in the last 20 years.
