Ottawa and Binghamton Senators defenceman Jared Cowen requires surgery on a lower-body injury.

The procedure will take place on Saturday.

Cowen's agent, Rick Valette, said the 21- year-old is slated to have a procedure to repair a small tear in the labrum in New York and Valette believes it will keep Cowen on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.

Selected ninth overall by the Senators in 2009, Cowen played in his first full NHL campaign last year, posting five goals and 17 points in 82 games.

The Saskatoon native was limited to three assists in three contests for Binghamton of the American Hockey League this season.
