Ryan Nugent-Hopkins may get to represent Team Canada in this year's World Junior Hockey Championship.

Nugent-Hopkins will undergo a precautionary shoulder exam in Edmonton on Sunday and, if he's pronounced fit by Oilers team doctors along with a review of MRIs by the Cleveland Clinic, the 19-year-old forward is expected to join the Canadian team that will compete for a gold medal in Ufa, Russia later this month.

While Nugent-Hopkins isn't injured, his shoulder hasn't felt right in recent games. If there are any concerns or issues with the shoulder, he would not participate at the World Juniors. A decision on the Burnaby, BC native's status is expected to be made sometime during the upcoming week.

Hockey Canada and the Canadian Hockey League will announce the selection camp roster for Canada's National Junior Team on Monday. You can watch the announcement on TSN.ca at 12:30pm et/9:30am pt.

In 19 games this season with the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League, Nugent-Hopkins has eight goals and 20 points.
