The Ottawa Senators appear to be another team pushing to host an outdoor National Hockey League game.

According to The Ottawa Business Journal, the club has approached the league about a game against the Montreal Canadiens in 2017 that would coincide with the Canada's 150th anniversary, the NHL's centennial celebration and the 25th anniversary of the Senators.

The proposed game would take place at Lansdowne Park.

Ottawa Senators president Cyril Leeder would not confirm or deny to the Journal if the team had formally asked the league about the game.

The Winter Classic and Heritage Classic have been cornerstone events for the NHL since the very first outdoor stadium game was played in Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium in 2003. Calgary hosted a Heritage Classic game between the Flames and Canadiens in 2011, while Winter Classic games have been played in Buffalo, Boston, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

This year's event, planned for Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan, was cancelled due to the lengthy NHL lockout.
