Alex Kovalev is getting another shot at the National Hockey League.
Miami Herald writer George Richards tweeted Tuesday that the former NHL veteran is in Pompano, Florida with the Panthers and will attend their training camp when it gets under way.
Kovalev, 39, played last season in the KHL with Atlant Mytishchi scoring a goal and five assists in 22 games.
In 18 NHL seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators and New York Rangers, he scored 1,024 points in 1,302 games.
"I think I have enough experience and I feel great health-wise," Kovalev told Richards on Tuesday. "I know game shape is different than practice but it doesn't take that long, maybe a week, week and a half and you're in game shape."
According to TSN's sister station in Quebec RDS, the team will also invite forwards Andrei Kostitsyn and Marek Svatos. Last season between Nashville and Montreal, Kostitsyn had 16 goals and 20 assists in 72 games.
Svatos last played in the NHL with the Ottawa Senators two seasons ago, scoring three goals and two assists in 19 games.
