VANCOUVER -- The Vancouver Canucks have signed veteran defenceman Jim Vandermeer.

The 32-year-old native of Caroline, Alta., has played in 461 NHL games, recording 105 points (25 goals, 80 assists) and 664 penalty minutes.

The six-foot-one, 208-pound defenceman had one goal and three assists in 25 games with San Jose last season.

Prior to entering the NHL, Vandermeer captained the Western Hockey League's Red Deer Rebels to a Memorial Cup championship in the 2000-01 season.
