Free agent Gomez to meet with Sharks this weekend

Scott Gomez is slated to meet with the San Jose Sharks this weekend as both sides explore whether there's a fit for the veteran forward with the club.

The 33-year-old was bought out by the Montreal Canadiens after clearing waivers on Thursday.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com, there are no other teams in the mix on Gomez right now.

Gomez played 38 games with the Canadiens last season, posting two goals and nine assists.

Prior to his three seasons in Montreal, the Anchorage, Alaska native played for the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils.

Gomez was originally drafted in the first round, 27th overall by the Devils in the 1998 NHL Draft.
