The Detroit Red Wings signed unrestricted free agent defenceman Kent Huskins to a one-year, one-way contract worth $750,000 on Tuesday.

Huskins will replace Carlo Colaiacovo in the lineup, who was placed on Injured Reserve Tuesday with a shoulder injury suffered in Columbus.

Huskins spent last season on the St. Louis Blues roster, where he missed 52 games with ankle and hand injuries. Through 25 contests with the Blues, he registered two goals and five assists.

Drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the sixth round (156th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, the Almonte, Ontario native was a member of the Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks before seeing his first NHL action with the Anaheim Ducks in 2006-07 - the same season he helped the team win the Stanley Cup.

Following the 2008-09 campaign in Anaheim, the 33-year-old was traded to the San Jose Sharks - along with Travis Moen - for Nick Bonino, Timo Pielmeier and a conditional draft pick. He registered a career-high 22 points in the 2009-10 season with the Sharks.

On July 2, 2011, Huskins signed with the Blues as a free agent.
