P.K. Subban was finally able to participate in a full team practice after signing his new deal with the Canadiens on Monday, but head coach Michel Therrien would not say if Subban will be in the lineup Saturday against the Buffalo Sabres.
However, there were signs from Friday's practice that might indicate No. 76 will play. For starters, Subban replaced Josh Gorges on the second wave of the power play with Francis Bouillon. Subban stayed paired up with Bouillon for the rest of practice. Tomas Kaberle has been Bouillon's defensive partner for the past few games; he was now practicing with Yannick Weber, who has only played one game this season.
The only thing Therrien would reveal about Saturday's afternoon lineup was that Carey Price will start in goal. Who will start on Sunday is still unknown. The head coach will make that decision following Saturday's game. When Subban eventually does get back into the lineup, don't expect to see the "triple low five" victory celebration with Price. Therrien wants his team to be humble and to celebrate as a team by thanking the fans.
Max Pacioretty shocked many by returning to practice only six days after undergoing an emergency appendectomy on January 26. He was expected to be out 3-4 weeks. The 24-year-old left winger has been known to have super hero like healing powers when it comes to his ability to returning from a serious injuries ahead of schedule. There is no time table for his return to the lineup; the doctors have left that decision up to Pacioretty. When he feels ready he will let the doctors know and they will make sure he is 100 per cent healthy to return. Pacioretty said he felt great, he was not limited in anyway at practice and felt no pain. It's probably doubtful that Pacioretty will return this weekend but expect to see him in the lineup sooner rather than later.
When the Baltimore Ravens last won the Super Bowl in 2001, the Canadiens went 2-0-0-0 that weekend. In 1995, when the San Francisco 49ers last won, the Canadiens weren't as successful, going 1-0-1-0.
