(Sports Network) - The Calgary Flames showed off their depth in a come-from-behind victory Sunday night. They'll need contributions across the board again tonight when they visit the Phoenix Coyotes to conclude a quick road trip played over back-to-back nights.
That includes in goal, where Danny Taylor will make his first career NHL start. Taylor currently leads the American Hockey League with a 1.82 goals-against average playing for the Abbotsford Heat. He played 20 minutes at the NHL level in 2008, allowing two goals on 10 shots with the Los Angeles Kings.
Taylor will become the first goalie born in England to start an NHL game since Byron Dafoe did it with Atlanta almost nine years ago.
The Flames paid a visit to the Dallas Stars and found themselves down by two goals heading into the third period. However, Roman Horak, Matt Stajan and Steve Begin all potted their first goals of the season in a three-goal third period, lifting Calgary to a 4-3 win.
The 34-year-old Begin scored his first regular-season goal since April 10, 2010, having missed all of last season due to a hip injury.
"It feels good, but the most important thing is we came out with two points," said Begin. "We needed those points and that's a huge win. We've got to be proud of ourselves but we've have to bring the same intensity for the next few games. This one is over and now we have a big one (Monday)."
Mike Cammalleri added his fourth goal of the season -- all against Dallas after netting a hat trick versus the club in a win last Wednesday -- while Joey MacDonald made 27 saves to win his first start with Calgary since being claimed off waivers from Detroit.
Cammalleri's first-period goal got the Flames off to a good start before the Stars responded in a big way during the second by scoring three times. Calgary recovered to improve to 4-2-2 in its past eight games and 3-1-1 on the road this season.
"We had a good talk after the second period," head coach Bob Hartley said. "I told them if we want to build some foundation to be a playoff team, it's games like this that we need to win."
The Coyotes are also coming off a solid win, getting a pair of third-period markers from Martin Hanzal in Saturday's 5-3 triumph over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The two-goal game gave Hanzal a team-leading seven tallies on the season.
Radim Vrbata, David Moss and Kyle Chipchura all scored in the first, Keith Yandle matched a career high with three assists and Mike Smith came up with 17 saves for the Coyotes, who have won five of seven and are 6-2-2 in their past eight.
"It was an important two points," Hanzal said of the victory. "These kind of games you have to win if you want to make the playoffs."
Vrbata, though, suffered a lower body injury in the game and did not return. Head coach Dave Tippett said on Sunday his winger, who leads Phoenix with 12 points, is day-to-day.
That is also the status of defenseman Derek Morris, who did not play against the Blue Jackets because of an upper body ailment.
The Coyotes have won eight of their past 11 versus the Flames, who did snap a five-game slide in Phoenix with a 3-1 victory there last March.
