The Pittsburgh Penguins may once again be in danger of losing a marquee player due to a concussion.

This time, though, it's Evgeni Malkin that is the cause for concern.

According to Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Evgeni Malkin is suffering from "severe headache and mild disorientation" after sliding hard into the boards during Friday's win over the Florida Panthers.

Malkin appeared to hit the back of his head on the boards on the play. He has been ruled out of Sunday's game against Tampa Bay while he undergoes further health evaluation, according to head coach Dan Bylsma.

"He's still being evaluated as to the extent of the hit and going into the boards hard," Bylsma said. "That's an ongoing process at this point in time.

"We're waiting to see how he feels and reacts. We're not expecting any timeline to the injury or anything."

Malkin has registered four goals and 21 points in 18 games with the Penguins so far this season. He is the reigning winner of the Hart and Art Ross trophies as well as the Ted Lindsay Award.

Originally selected second overall by the Penguins at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Malkin has amassed 212 goals and 548 points in 445 career NHL games. In addition to last season's awards haul he has also won the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy, the Calder Memorial Trophy as well as an additional Art Ross Trophy that he earned for leading the 2008-09 season in scoring.
