After a report surfaced on Wednesday that Ottawa Senators forward Jason Spezza may have suffered a setback in his recovery from back surgery, Senators GM Bryan Murray addressed the media to clear up any misinformation.

"There's nothing different," Murray said. "What happened was he overdid it one day. He just had some discomfort with muscles in his back that he hadn't worked out for a long time."

Spezza has begun skating on his own in recent weeks. The 29-year-old originally suffered his back injury in late January and required surgery to repair a disc in his back.

"Somebody had to ask me if there'd been a setback and I just said he'd be a little longer than I probably thought, simply because he just has to get back in condition," Murray continued.

The expected timeframe for Spezza's return from the injury was six to eight weeks, something Murray said is still in play.

"It's going to be his timetable. We don't want him to overdo it to the extent that when he comes back, he's not in 100% condition. In turn, I know he's working hard and getting ready. We hope it won't be too far down the road.

"Everything has gone well. He's been back to the doctor a couple times to make sure everything is in order as they suspected it should be. It's just a matter now of doing the proper therapy as we go along."
