Report: Oilers, Smid close to four-year contract extension

According to a report in the Edmonton Sun, defenceman Ladislav Smid is close to signing a contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers.

The extension is reported to be for four years that could total around $16 million.

Smid, a former ninth-overall pick by the Anaheim Ducks, has one goal and three points in 34 games for the Oilers so far this season.

The 27-year-old has played his entire six-year career with Edmonton, recording 10 goals and 62 points in 443 games.
