It appears Sidney Crosby is aiming to return to the Pittsburgh Penguins lineup in time for the playoffs.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Crosby was given medical clearance to practice on Thursday and is expected to join his teammates on the ice on Friday.

The Penguins open the playoffs at home with Game 1 likely slated for Wednesday.

Crosby has been out with a broken jaw since late March and undergone extensive dental work after losing a number of teeth. He is having more dental work done on Thursday.

When Crosby returns, he is expected to wear a protective shield over his jaw.
