Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis says that the team is still planning to interview four or five more candidates for its head coaching position.

Speaking on Vancouver's TEAM1040 radio on Friday, Gillis confirmed that former Dallas Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan and Toronto Marlies head coach Dallas Eakins have already interviewed for the vacancy. TSN's Darren Dreger reported last week that former Columbus Blue Jackets head coach Scott Arniel was also among the candidates who were believed to be scheduled for an interview.

Gillis did not disclose who else is under consideration for the posting.

"I think this is a great opportunity for us to change direction and I want to speak to everybody and hear their views about what they feel we need and how they could contribute to the Vancouver Canucks," Gillis told the TEAM1040. "It's an interesting process, and it's an opportunity to learn a lot about people that are good quality coaches."

Gillis also said that there is no timeframe for hiring a new head coach, and the team will take its time to speak to all of its candidates.

The Canucks' general manager did say though that he believed that a new coach will be in place prior to the July 5 opening of the free agency period.

Gillis also characterized the June 30 NHL Draft as "strong" and said the Canucks would be interested in trading up from their 24th pick if the opportunity presented itself.

"I think (the Draft) is going to be busy," said Gillis. "There's going to be a lot of jockeying around - I think there's going to be some trades (around the league), but again you never know how busy it's going to be."
