Blues invite D Whitney to training camp as tryout

The St. Louis Blues have invited defensceman Ryan Whitney to training camp as a professional tryout.

Whitney is coming off a season with the Edmonton Oilers where he scored four goals and nine assists in 34 games.

Drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round (5th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the 30-year-old Whitney has played in 474 NHL games with the Penguins, Anaheim Ducks and Oilers. For his career, he's registered 50 goals and 209 assists.
