Veteran winger Brad Boyes will be joining the Florida Panthers' training camp on a professional tryout contract.

The 31-year-old Boyes is coming out of a one-year deal with the New York Islanders, where he scored 10 goals and 25 assists through 48 games last season.

The Panthers also offered unrestricted free agent goaltender Tim Thomas a professional tryout contract.

Thomas' agent, Markus Lehto, told TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com that his client still hasn't made any decisions but wants to be a number one goalie and not a backup.

A decision by Thomas is expected soon.

Thomas, 39, signed a multi-year contract extension with the Boston Bruins on April 3, 2009, then decided to put his career on hold following the 2011-12 season. His rights were traded to the New York Islanders last season, and he became a free agent after the 2013 season.

TSN's Aaron Ward also tweeted that former Philadelphia Flyer and Phoenix Coyote Ilya Bryzgalov's name has been discussed by the Panthers.

A native of Mississauga, Ont, Boyes was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round (24th overall) in 2000. He was traded to the San Jose Sharks three years later, along with Alyn McCauley and a first-round selection, for Owen Nolan. The following season he was sent to the Boston Bruins, where he spent three seasons before getting traded to the Blues in 2007. He played over four years with the Blues before inking with the New York Islanders as an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2012.

Boyes has played 606 career NHL games, scoring 168 goals and adding 239 assists. He had a career-high season with the Blues in 2007-08 when he notched 43 goals. He followed it up with a career-best 72 points the following season.
